The content filtering research group of Kaspersky Lab’s  has recently discovered a mass mailing that contains a links sending unsuppecting users to a video advert on the video site YouTube.

It has been reported that there are several variations to this mass mailer, but all result in directing to YouTube

This is the first time the Kaspersky with the support of its specialists have tracked a mass mailing intended to push users to a advertising video.

The head of content analysis and research at Kaspersky Lab a Mr Darya Gudkova, stated “Naturally, this type of advertising is more interesting and gets more hits. Two years ago spammers used the YouTube name and the promise of interesting videos to lure users to advertising sites. Now the links really do lead to this popular video hosting site which is being used to store unsolicited advertising content.”

Kaspersky Lab continue to say how important it is for all users to keep spam filters turned on in order to block unwanted or potentially hazardous emails.
